Breaking up can be a life changing experience. Most girls feel that when they are in a committed relationship, that that person is THE ONE. Girls envision themselves married to this guy and having his kids. Other times, though, breaking up is no big deal. It’s easy to move on the next available hunk. But this article is for the one that got away. What do you do pick yourself up? Can you two get back together?

If you and your boyfriend had a heated break up, it’s best to take a breather and take a week or two away from each other. One might be angry while the other is frustrated. Whatever the reason is, take a break from each other. After a week or two, you might want to either text, email or physically write a letter. Having no contact is best in the beginning if you feel you two should still be together. In the letter or email state that you still want to talk things through and that you feel your relationship is worth the fight.

Another suggestion is to go to counseling before the big break up. If you notice more argument and more frustration, then consider talking to someone. If your partner wants to save the relationship then they will go to a counselor. It may take some persuading and some time but eventually the other person will go if they truly want to save the relationship. Talking to a third party will enable more controlled talking and less yelling.

Not all relationships are smooth sailing. You will have your ups and downs and rough spots which is just a normal part of your relationship. This doesn’t mean you are doomed as a couple. Here are the steps to regain footing in your relationship.

Steps To Build Back Your Relationship

Ask Each Other Why The Love is Gone – Whether it’s due to stress, differing views on children and marriage or work, finding what caused the break in your relationship is key to mending it.

Let Your Feelings Out – Once you find out the cause of the discord in your relationship, both of you need to talk about your feelings. This isn’t the time to argue and try to “win” your way. To cut down the feelings of wanting to argue, go to a park or cafe and have a reasonable discussion. Try talking in 2-minute intervals so that both of you can get your say in your feelings.

Decide if You Need a Break – Taking a break could be beneficial to your relationship. If you find that you lost yourself in the relationship, a break can help. Regardless, it’s important that both of you realize the problem and decide together if it is worth fixing it.

Rekindle Your Love – If you choose to work on your relationship, now is the good time to try and rekindle the feelings you two had when you fell in love. Plan date night and go back to places where you two were first dating. Also try to reconnect more emotionally by sharing your feelings more.
